Growing up, I was never the slim one. I didn't play sports, but I was a dancer from the age of three until my late teens, and I always felt like I was chubbier than those around me. However it wasn't until I hit my late teens/early twenties that I really started to gain a lot of weight.
As an emotional eater, going through a difficult relationship and dealing with the pressures of being a young adult (full time work, moving out of home, changes to friendship circles) I turned to food as a coping mechanism.
At my heaviest weight of 75kg's, I felt miserable. I was in my early 20's- what should have been a great time for me socially, left me feeling isolated. My self esteem and confidence were at an all time low. Going out with friends at times would cause me anxiety - thoughts of "what can I wear to disguise my shape" caused me to often wear a cardigan over every outfit just to hide my arms. I knew I had to make a change.
I joined a gym, and started being more active in my every day life. Small changes like walking to work instead of catching transport, and taking the stairs more often, helped me to incidentally increase my activity levels. My diet improved as I learned more about "clean eating" and taught myself some healthy habits that I still use to this day.
My weight slowly decreased over a period of 2-3 years, until I was feeling fairly good about my everyday shape. At this point I was weight training in the gym around 4-5 times a week, I'd completed a 12 week boot-camp challenge, and I considered myself to be at least an moderate level of fitness... My next challenge, something that would push me to finally reach my "goal weight" - compete in a Bikini competition!
Throughout my 20 week prep in early 2015, assisted by a coach, I went from 61/62kg's, to my stage weight of 51kg on my 156cm frame. My initial goal of competing in the INBA Bikini division ended with me being told I had far too much ab definition for Bikini, and I had to move up to the Fitness division! I placed 4th in my class (Fitness Novice Short) as well as 4th in the INBA Angels category. It was such an amazing experience to compete, and placing in my first ever competition was such a huge bonus!
During the early stages of my prep I was also studying to complete my Cert III & IV in Fitness - my passion for living a fit & healthy life continued to grow, and I wanted the opportunity to help others live their best active life, and find the happiness and self confidence that I have found!
I am now a fully qualified Personal Trainer, with a Cert III & IV in Fitness, with additional certifications in Level 1 & 2 Advanced Nutrition for Personal Trainers, Thump Boxing, and I am also an ISSN Sports Nutrition Specialist, and Clean Health Fitness Institute Performance Coach (Level 1 & 2 certified) working with clients worldwide via my online Transformation Programs and Challenges!
I have since competed in a total of nine Bikini/Fitness shows, including two consecutive years at the Arnold Classic, and an international show for the New Zealand IFBB Pro/Am, where I took home a third place in Bikini Novice and fourth place in Bikini Open.
I'm currently focusing purely on getting my clients their desired results through education & support, and my goal is to continue to help more and more girls around the world achieve amazing results and learn to become their happiest, healthiest and most confident selves!
